Why the Least Scalable Thing Is Winning Right Now

June 10, 2026

The oldest growth strategy is having a moment and honestly it makes complete sense.

When anyone can generate a hundred posts before lunch, the thing that can’t be faked becomes the differentiator. Trust built through real relationships doesn’t have a shortcut.

If you’ve been investing in relationships, referrals and real community while everyone around you was focused on content creation, you’re not behind. You’re sitting on something most people are just now realizing they need more of.

Here’s what shifted.

AI took the logic of content creation to its absolute limit. The cost of producing content dropped to nearly zero and what was once a strategy became noise.

There’s a stat floating around that 60 percent of internet content will be bot-generated within the next year. I believe it because I feel it when I scroll. You probably do too.

And people are filtering. Somewhere in the background the brain is running a constant calibration: is this real? Do I trust this person? Does this actually mean anything?

When the noise gets louder the filters get more aggressive. What cuts through is recognizable credibility, the kind that comes from connection, collaboration, and partnerships.

I was sitting at a casual dinner with a few clients recently when someone told a story that stopped the whole table.

A person had set up a tent in Canmore, Alberta, filmed themselves waking up to the perfect mountain morning, then packed everything into their car and drove away. They were never camping. It was a spot where you can’t even camp.

Everyone laughed then went quiet.

Because we all recognized it. That’s just a lot of content now: it’s shaped like something real and packaged like authenticity but hollow when you look closer. And people are looking closer.

Connection, collaborations, partnerships and referrals work because they borrow trust that already exists. Community works because it builds trust over time through repeated real interactions. A dinner table works because you cannot fake being in the room.

That accumulated trust is equity and it compounds. The people who kept investing in it, even while the pressure to scale was loudest, are sitting on something that can’t be copied overnight.

The slow work is unglamorous and that’s the whole point. It’s the thing everyone skipped, which is exactly why it still converts.

If this resonates I went deeper on all of it in my latest Substack essay.
